Low reservoirs mean trouble

Lack of rain, low reservoirs, leaks, misuse and lack of repair all lead to low water levels. When you see a very low reservoir it rather brings it all "home".

Upper Bittell Reservoir may be home to a sailing and fishing club, but it is also a feeder for the Worcester and Birmingham Canal and it was a shock to see it like this .....

 

Back in time on the canals

Sometimes I wish I had a time machine so I could go back in time to the "golden age of canals", or canalmania as it was called. But thanks to the internet we almost have a time machine and canal museums can transport us back in our imagination too.

Drought conditions for boaters

At the moment some parts of England and Wales are "in drought", says the Environment Agency. They keep a close eye on the water levels around the country. Drought affects boaters and non-boaters alike - we are all using a precious resource.

So will all this affect us? Will you have water problems when you are on your narrowboat? Will there be enough water to cruise our canals and rivers this year? .....
